Edition 1

The city of Ahmedabad is known to have a rich history, cultural heritage with iconic landmarks like Adalaj Stepwell, Jama Masjid, the Calico Museum of Textiles as well as preserves an exquisite archive of handicrafts and culinary traditions. It has also a lineage of patronage with important families that form the cultural foundation and has witnessed tracks of brilliant minds such as B.V Doshi, Buckminster Fuller and Le Corbusier. Over the last couple years, there has been an increased number in Contemporary Art spaces that are dynamic with their programming and outreach. Hence, recognising the growing potential to execute a larger, more comprehensive occurrence that may activate all spaces, simultaneously leading to the initiation of Ahmedabad Cultural Week Edition 1 (ACW Ed.1).
Ahmedabad Cultural Week is purely designed for the city of Ahmedabad and its people, with an aspiration for community building. It is for the people of Ahmedabad to look forward to interacting with and learning about Contemporary Art and artistic practices. The idea is to activate cultural spaces in sync, so the city and its people have a diverse palette to look forward to every year, ensuring that there is ‘contemporary’ conversation, pedagogy and interaction within and around the sphere of the arts.
We are honoured to have 15 leading cultural organisations as part of ACW Ed.1, and extend our many thanks to them as well as all the partners who have very kindly come on board, to extend their support and facilitate the cause of Ahmedabad Cultural Week. For the years to come, we hope for many more editions, to hear new voices and work with new architectonics to keep the celebration going for the city of Ahmedabad.

Responsibility
statement
Our mission is to celebrate contemporary art and make it accessible as possible.
To do so with integrity, we must address the challenges that threaten artists, communities, and cultural ecosystems worldwide.
We recognise that addressing the climate crisis is inseparable from tackling global inequalities. Our environmental actions will be guided by the principles of climate justice, ensuring that our efforts support the needs of those most affected by climate and social injustice.
Accessibility is also an inherent part of all activities. Ahmedabad Cultural Week
looks towards having an overall ethos of inclusion for all — older people, families
with small children, carers, friends and relatives who accompany guests with
particular requirements.
We use our very first edition, ACW Ed.1 as a stepping stone to refine the editions to come. Adopting an access for all principle across will mean giving consideration to existing legislation covering discrimination based on grounds of disability, published access guidance and recognised best practice.
Ahmedabad Cultural Weekend will track annually on our progress. We welcome feedback, collaboration, and accountability from our partners, galleries, and audiences as we continue this work.
