Gujarat Vishwakosh Trust was established to fill a long standing gap: even fifty years after independence, Gujarat had no comprehensive general encyclopedia of its own. The Trust set out to create a Gujarati encyclopedia in the spirit of the Encyclopedia Britannica, covering knowledge across every field. Its current premises, Vishwakoshbhavan, was built in 2005 and houses two core activities: a knowledge wing that develops subject wise and discipline wise reference volumes, and a fine arts wing that regularly hosts music, theatre, dance, poetry and art presentations.
